EXPOSÉ: Trump’s Bold Cuts Target Leftist Bias at Voice of America, Slashing 600+ Jobs

By Economics Desk | June 20, 2025

The Trump administration decisively trims over 600 employees from Voice of America and related outlets, confronting decades of taxpayer-funded media bias and bureaucratic waste.

In a sweeping move to rein in federal media overreach and partisan bias, the Trump administration ordered the termination of more than 600 employees at the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which encompasses Voice of America (VOA) and Radio Martí. This marks an aggressive step toward dismantling what has long been a bloated, left-leaning government media apparatus funded by hardworking American taxpayers.

Kari Lake, senior advisor to USAGM appointed by President Trump, announced the layoffs as part of a broader agenda to slash unchecked bureaucracy. “Today we took decisive steps to implement President Trump’s agenda to reduce out-of-control federal red tape,” Lake stated. The layoffs amount to an 85% workforce reduction since March, eliminating some 1,400 positions from agencies historically riddled with dysfunction and bias.

Only about 250 employees remain across VOA, USAGM headquarters, and the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (OCB), which operates Radio Martí. Lake underscored that the agency now functions near the statutory minimum workforce required by law — leaner and more focused — fulfilling a solemn promise to restore accountability and prioritize American taxpayers.

This action is not merely budgetary trimming; it strikes at the heart of entrenched ideological influence masquerading as public service media. For decades, Americans have inadvertently subsidized entities that promote biased narratives hostile to conservative values and national sovereignty. The previous administration allowed this unchecked growth while exploiting taxpayer dollars for political agendas divorced from genuine public interest.

These cuts also follow President Trump’s earlier moves to defund National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), organizations repeatedly criticized for liberal slants that misrepresent or omit patriotic perspectives. While detractors on both left and right lament potential program losses, this reform prioritizes freedom from partisan propaganda masquerading as journalism.

The VOA has traditionally served as a beacon of American soft power abroad — broadcasting in over 40 languages into nations lacking free press — but even here internal dysfunction and slanted reporting demanded reform. Notably, VOA leadership and journalists have challenged these terminations in court with partial but temporary success; however, appeals courts lifted injunctions allowing layoffs to proceed amid ongoing litigation.

America First demands government programs operate efficiently without ideological distortion or taxpayer abuse. These reductions exemplify President Trump’s commitment to cutting wasteful spending while reclaiming truthful messaging that advances our national interests rather than undermining them through biased narratives.

The fight against entrenched media bias within federal channels is far from over. Still, these decisive actions represent a crucial victory for conservatives who insist on accountability in government-funded media operations.
