EXPOSÉ: Russia’s Disorganized War Effort Revealed Through Grim Prisoner and Casualty Exchanges

By National Security Desk | June 21, 2025

President Zelenskyy exposes Moscow’s chaotic and indifferent management of its war dead and POW exchanges, highlighting the Kremlin’s disregard for Russian soldiers amid ongoing conflict.

In a stark revelation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has exposed the disarray within Russia’s military operations through recent prisoner-of-war and casualty exchanges. At least 20 bodies of Russian soldiers were returned to Ukraine in what Zelenskyy describes as a sign of Moscow’s failure to effectively manage large-scale swaps of wounded POWs and fallen troops.

Highlighting Russia’s indifferent attitude toward its own servicemen, Zelenskyy stated bluntly that Moscow “threw the corpses of their citizens” at Ukraine — a grim testament to how little regard the Kremlin has for the lives of those it sends into battle. Some of these bodies even bore Russian passports, underscoring the direct link between Moscow’s command failures and the human toll on Russian families.

The Illusion of Peace Negotiations

The exchange mechanism, ostensibly established during peace talks in Istanbul, has so far yielded only these grim swaps rather than genuine progress toward ending hostilities. In June, an agreement was made to exchange 6,000 bodies each; Ukraine expressed concern about this high number without sufficient time for proper forensic identification.

Zelenskyy suspects Russia is merely playing along with diplomatic efforts to placate Western powers — particularly the United States — in hopes of delaying further sanctions. Yet behind this facade, Vladimir Putin remains convinced he can win this war by attrition.

Sanctions Relief Ignored While Russia Builds Its Arsenal

The president further revealed that dozens of Russian companies remain unsanctioned despite their involvement in producing Oreshnik missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads—a clear escalation in Russia’s military capabilities. This glaring loophole demands urgent action from Western governments if they truly intend to pressure Putin’s regime.

Ongoing Threats and Strategic Alliances

Zelenskyy also shed light on Moscow’s dangerous partnerships with Iran and North Korea—sources providing drones, missiles, and other weapons used against Ukraine. Though he stopped short of endorsing Israeli strikes against Iran directly, he noted that weakening Iran’s production capacities indirectly benefits Ukraine’s defense efforts.

Domestic Innovation and International Support

Despite relentless Russian missile barrages targeting Ukrainian cities, Zelenskyy affirmed that reports claiming destruction of Patriot air defense systems are unfounded. Ukraine is successfully deploying domestically produced interceptors against Iranian-made Shahed drones. However, scaling production requires significant support from allies; Zelenskyy urged Western nations to contribute at least 0.25% of their GDP to bolster Ukraine’s indigenous defense industry.

A Call for Renewed Unity Against Putin

Looking ahead to an upcoming NATO summit and future meetings with U.S. leadership—including former President Trump—Zelenskyy stressed the urgent need for a revitalized diplomatic approach marked by stronger pressure on Putin. Without decisive global action reflecting America First principles—protecting national sovereignty while confronting aggressive foes—this tragic conflict will drag on at tremendous cost.

This exposé serves as a reminder that only through relentless accountability can we confront authoritarian chaos threatening not just Ukraine but our shared values worldwide.
