In a rare publicized setback, Myanmar’s military reportedly lost a Chinese FTC-2000G fighter jet, shot down by local resistance forces amid the ongoing civil conflict ignited by the 2021 coup. This exposes the vulnerability of junta air power despite heavy foreign arms support.

The Myanmar military recently suffered a notable loss when a two-seater Chinese-made FTC-2000G ground-attack jet crashed in Kayah state’s combat zone, allegedly shot down by anti-junta resistance fighters. This claim comes amidst intensified clashes following the February 2021 military coup that ousted Myanmar’s elected government. Maui, vice commander-in-chief of the Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF), confirmed to Associated Press that his forces engaged and downed the fighter jet near Hpasawng township.
